Message by the President of the Cyprus Hotel Association, Mr Haris Loizides, for the Special Edition of “Holiday in Cyprus 2018” on the occasion of World Travel Market Exhibition

We welcome the opportunity to be part of this special edition of “Holiday in Cyprus” to be published on the occasion of “World Travel Market Exhibition” of 2018 and to present the competitive advantages as well as the achievements of Cyprus Tourism.

Starting from the latter, we are pleased to note that following the double digit increases in our tourist arrivals both in 2016 and in 2017, the current year is still progressing with a positive growth rate. By the end of 2018 we anticipate to register an all-time record in our tourist arrivals, closely approaching the 4 million mark!

Looking further into the future, the new National Strategy for our tourism development sets, amongst other goals, for our tourists arrivals by 2030, to reach 4.8 million annually, a target-goal which seems in need of an upward revision.

It’s a great opportunity for tourists as well as for tourist professionals to discover that Cyprus is far beyond a ˝sun and sea˝ destination possessing all the characteristics for multiple types of tourism. We as hoteliers have contributed towards this direction by offering more facilities so as to accommodate these specialized forms of tourism, through investments in excess of €500 million in the last 3 years , in further upgradings and enrichments of our hotel industry.

In this way we have contributed in extending the tourism season to almost nine months, thus making significant strides in mitigating the seasonality challenge.

Your readers will have the benefit of reading about Cyprus’ advances in the field of special interest tourism, such as golf and other types of sport tourism, spa and wellness, gastronomy, conferences and incentives, nature and other thematic routes, cultural events and festivals, and in many other areas, all emanating from the rich historical and cultural heritage of our island. The island of LOVE, and thus the perfect venue for planning a wedding abroad!

The Cyprus Hotel Association and the hoteliers themselves have played an instrumental role in introducing these specialized forms of tourism on the island, apart from being the key contributors in establishing the reputation for Cyprus, as a high quality destination for memorable stays, be it for leisure and/or business purposes, all year-round.
